"A remarkable country house with generous living space, versatile outbuildings and around 8 acres of beautifully arranged grounds."
The Property
As with many country houses the entrance most regularly used is at the back, it opens to a rear hallway which has cloakroom on the right. This has stunning Mark Wilkinson fitted cupboards and vanity unit with stone top and basin.
The kitchen is straight ahead with tiled floor, bespoke Mark Wilkinson solid oak units, a dark granite work surface and upstands, 4 oven oil aga, electric hob and integrated electric double oven and grill. The kitchen, like the dining room and sitting room, has a large window with a super view of the south garden. To the right a scullery has masses of further storage in full-height built-in-cupboards.
There is space for a fridge/freezer and fitted base units with a traditional timber worksurface and a Belfast sink. A door conceals the secondary stairs which lead up to the office.
Beyond the scullery is a boot room which has an exterior door to the rear garden. The boot room leads around to a utility room which has another sink and space for a washing machine and additional fridge/freezer.
There is a boiler cupboard and under stairs cupboard with water cylinder with Tesla control units.
To the left of the kitchen is the dining room which has timber floorboards, a log burning stove in a fireplace, and an attractive sash window with shutters.
The glorious central hall has a flagstone floor, large front door which opens to the south garden and painted timber stairs that rise to first floor. This space connects the different elements of the house in a pleasing way, with curved walls, natural light from many sources, including a window above on the half landing, and appealing lines of sight, encouraging you to use all the rooms in this delightful house, making it a very easy property to call home.
The attractive drawing room has an open fireplace as a focal point and dark wood floor boards are illuminated by light from an identical window to the dining room, again with shutters.
The hall leads to the back of the house and joins the rear hallway. To the east is a large window with window seat and beyond this the sitting room is dual aspect with a log burning stove for warmth in the winter months.
Upstairs there are 4 bedrooms on the first floor. The principal bedroom suit is exceptionally spacious with a large dressing room with fitted wardrobes. This leads to an equally spacious bathroom with free standing bath, shower cubicle and sauna. There are also double sinks.
2 further bathrooms with baths and separate shower cubicles serve the other bedrooms on this floor. The west end of this floor is a huge office/study which is almost 30ft long. The secondary stairs descend from here to the scullery.
The 2nd floor is accessed via stairs behind a door on the main landing. Here you will find a bedroom, bathroom and further loft storage room which could easily be converted into accommodation if required.
Externally
The house is approached up a tree lined drive bordered by paddocks and a mature garden.
Parking is on a gravel drive beside the stables. A paved path leads through a garden gate to the rear of the main house where a wisteria clad trellis borders the lawn and garden. The path continues, through a handsome wrought iron gate to a gravel courtyard between the annexe and the garages. A gate opens to the road and the two garages are not currently used as garages, they have been adapted to create 3 rooms for storage.
The walled garden at the rear of the house has a paved terrace beside a magnificent magnolia tree, a perfect spot for evening drinks. This garden in enclosed and extends to the stable yard.
To the south of the house is a large lawn, bordered by majestic, mature trees, part walled, with ornate railings dividing it from a similar sized arboretum with pond.
The self-contained annexe has a stunning open plan living room/office with vaulted ceiling. This could be used as a yoga studio, gym, office or accommodation. There is a kitchen, bedroom and shower room.
The Stable Yard is enclosed and has block work stables (x3) a tack room and tractor shed on a concrete base. There are two open sided hay barns.
To the west is a manège which has been adapted to accommodate solar panels.
The land includes two paddocks beside the stables, there are two additional, larger fields divided by an attractive stream and in the far west corner is a newly planted woodland.
