Behind The Chatsworth Collection | Edward Bulmer Natural Paint

We’re delighted to share the newest line of paint from our partner Edward Bulmer Natural Paint: The Chatsworth Collection.

Developed by ‘colourman’ and interior designer Edward Bulmer in collaboration with Lady Burlington and the Chatsworth team, the collection presents 24 exquisite new paint colours. A collection that encapsulates the history, colours, and beauty of one of this country’s most significant country estate houses and brings it to modern life. Edward drew inspiration from the architecture and bones of the house; the survivals, remembrances, evocations, coup d’oeil, borrowings and gatherings of this majestic estate.

“Chatsworth is one of those fabled places – I have admired it since I first fell in love with the whole notion of the ‘English country house’ and I still see it as the supreme example of this country’s great family homes. I love how its beautiful stone fronts sit foursquare in the rolling countryside. Inside it houses a great art collection and stunning painted interiors, and it has opened its doors to visitors, far and wide, since the 1600s. The gardens are famed for their beauty, and indeed their innovation, and the ancient park still hosts annual events that I like to think have their roots in the ‘outdoor amusements’ that delighted Chatsworth’s redoubtable builder, Bess of Hardwick.

Though a million people come to Chatsworth every year, it is still a home, with domestic and public spaces presented in novel and intriguing ways. Colour abounds here – in rare and precious survivals, in memories and evocations: there are colours in all sorts of materials, in works of art and in the ‘everyday’ life of those who live and work at Chatsworth.

Walking and talking around the venerable old house, Laura Burlington and I have evolved a palette of twenty four colours that can be seen as ‘Chatsworth in a blink of an eye’. At every stage, we have sense-checked the usability of the colours; how they would translate into decorative schemes of all sorts, for rooms of widely differing appearance and scale. The colours are designed to have a particular character, but to share a tonal relationship with the colours already in the Edward Bulmer Natural Paint range.”
