Great photography is about more than just taking a technically perfect image, and few understand this better than Caroline and Kelly, the talented duo behind The Twins. With years of experience spanning interiors, editorial and portraiture, their work has an instinctive quality that transforms each photograph into something more than just a still frame, it becomes an experience. It’s about creating a feeling, drawing people into a space before they’ve even stepped through the door
When I spoke to them about their process, it was clear that while technical expertise plays a role, instinct is at the heart of their craft. “It’s a bit of both,” Kelly explains. “Over the years, we’ve refined our process, but with that experience comes the confidence to work instinctively. It’s about trusting the process, knowing your equipment, and allowing space for creative spontaneity.” Caroline echoes this sentiment, adding, “We both feel what makes a good shot. We’re drawn to light how it moves, how it shapes a space. That’s what guides us.”

Their sensitivity to light makes them particularly skilled at capturing period properties, where shadows and highlights interact with historic details in a way that demands careful handling. “With period homes, it’s about working with the natural light and embracing the depth it gives to a space,” Kelly says. “We avoid anything artificial that distorts how a home really looks.” But their approach is just as considered when photographing contemporary properties. “With modern homes, it’s all about clean lines and a more architectural feel,” Caroline explains. “It’s different, but the principle is the same, showing the space as it truly is.” Caroline also has a keen eye for mid-century design, is equally captivated by modernist gems, particularly those of California. “We’re lucky to have so many period properties in the North East, but I’m also drawn to mid-century homes and their bold, considered design.”

Ultimately, their greatest reward lies in how their work is received. “It’s about creating beautiful images that make people feel something,” says Kelly. “We want the owners, and potential owners, to see a space as it truly is, to understand what it’s like to live there.” Caroline adds, “It’s also privilege to spend time in such beautiful homes.”
Their images capture more than just bricks and mortar they reflect the essence of a home, the way light filters through a window in the morning or the way a staircase curves in the evening glow. With The Twins, every photograph tells a story, and every home they capture feels like a place waiting to be lived in.
