Internationally inspired dining in the heart of the Lake District
Located within the contemporary country house hotel Linthwaite House, Henrock by Simon Rogan offers a distinctive dining experience in the heart of the Lake District. The restaurant opened in 2019 and takes its name from ‘Hen Rock’, a small rocky outcrop on Lake Windermere.

In 2024, the team welcomed Mark McCabe as head chef. Under his leadership, the restaurant continues to evolve, with menus that celebrate seasonal ingredients through a distinctly international lens. While deeply rooted in Simon Rogan’s ethos of sustainability and locality, Henrock takes creative inspiration from his restaurants around the world, including Roganic Hong Kong, ION Harbour in Malta and Aulis Phuket. Since Mark took the helm, the restaurant has also become entirely single-use plastic free, further strengthening its commitment to operating more sustainably.

Across the Choice Menu, Short Menu, Full Menu and Sunday Lunch Menu, the kitchen brings together global influences and locally grown produce, much of it sourced from Simon’s Our Farm, just a short distance away. A selection of more unusual and internationally inspired ingredients is cultivated specifically for the restaurant, allowing the team to recreate the vibrant tastes, aromas and character of cuisines from further afield using produce grown in the Lake District. These ingredients are complemented by herbs and vegetables from Mark McCabe’s own small kitchen garden within the grounds of Linthwaite House, creating menus that feel firmly connected to their surroundings while looking well beyond them for inspiration.

This approach has earned Henrock growing national recognition. At the 2026 National Restaurant Awards, the restaurant was placed at No. 40 in the UK’s Top 100 Restaurants, while Mark was also nominated in the Chef to Watch category, recognising both the restaurant’s continued evolution and his impact since taking the helm.
