Nina Litchfield, Interior Designer

We’re delighted to welcome Nina Litchfield to The Finest Directory, our handpicked network of creatives whose work captures the feeling of home in all its rich and varied forms.

Nestled in the heart of London, Nina Litchfield Studios has quietly carved a reputation for interiors that feel both purposefully created and deeply lived-in. At the helm is Nina Litchfield herself, a designer whose multi-cultural upbringing and intuitive eye for design has given rise to a voice that is refreshingly personal. Born in Brazil and raised in Germany, Nina’s early life was steeped in a rich mix of colour, structure, and storytelling – a combination that would later form the foundation of her unique aesthetic.

“We focus on creating spaces that are functional, cosy, and designed for organic growth over time.”

After moving to London in 2004 to study international relations at Kingston University, she initially pursued a career in fashion and art, including roles at Sotheby’s photographic department and the fashion PR agency BPCM. However, it was only after the birth of her first child that she decided to pursue her passion for interiors. She enrolled at the Inchbald School of Design, graduated in 2011, and launched Nina Litchfield Studios a few years later, her intuitive love of design paving the way for a thriving business. Today, the boutique studio is made up of a small, multi-disciplinary team of designers, architects, and creative directors. Together, they work on a mix of residential and commercial projects across London and beyond, overseeing projects from conception all the way to one year after completion.

At the core of Litchfield’s design philosophy is a commitment to creating homes that reflect real lives. “Clients come to us because they want homes that evolve with them,” she explains. “We focus on creating spaces that are functional, cosy, and designed for organic growth over time.” This ethos is reflected in her own Notting Hill townhouse, a Victorian home that doubles as a canvas for her experiments in design. Rich, enveloping colors define many of the rooms, think veined-green marble counters, deep-blue walls, and jewel-toned textiles, while bold wallpapers and vintage furniture add a touch of drama. What sets Litchfield apart is her ability to blend eras, styles, and functions with ease. Her rooms don’t feel ‘designed’ in the traditional sense, they feel curated – a reflection of her many clients and their varied personalities.

Her work has gained attention across a plethora of well-regarded platforms. House & Garden, AD Germany, and Condé Nast Italy, to name a few, have all celebrated Nina’s distinctive voice and praised her ability as a designer. She was also featured in a 2023 ‘Take 5’ interview by Roseberys London, where she revealed her enduring love for mid-century design classics, from Eames folding screens to Ole Wanscher chairs. But beyond the accolades, it’s Litchfield’s ability to make interiors feel emotionally intelligent that resonates most. Her homes grow with their inhabitants: spaces made for reading, for gathering, for quiet mornings and messy birthday parties.

We asked Nina what “home” means to her:

“When I close my eyes and ask myself: “what is home?” The truth is that home is a feeling, it is a sense of belonging, it is warmth. The exterior is simply a reflection of our internal world. From the moment we were conceived in our mother’s womb, home was being held in her arms. Home is a feeling of safety. We feel protected from the outside world in our homes! Each home is unique to its owner, and that’s why no home should ever look the same. I really dislike being pigeonholed in my work, as I then feel I have failed as a designer. A home is a space that manages to give us all the functionality that we need whilst feeling soft, cosy, and imperfect. I love homes that you come in and you feel the owner! They need to be represented in which ever way, art, photography, colour, or the illusion of perfection. I consciously help my clients curate their lifestyle to represent them and make their home feel like a home. That is my challenge, and I would not have it any other way.”

At a time when design can often feel too sterile or too perfect, Nina offers something far more valuable: authenticity. Her work reminds us that home is not just where we live, but how we live, and that true beauty lies in the perfectly imperfect layers we collect along the way.
